LuvMat was born out of love.
Founders, Scott Roberts and Emily
Summersett first met each other, at a mountain bike race, in the
mountains of North Carolina in 1995. One broken-down Volkswagen
Jetta, a rained-out race and a strawberry waffle later, the two became
inseparable and the rest is history.
Their love for outdoor adventure, overall wellness and mindful living led them to discover yoga in 2001. They were hooked after their first class and yoga soon became a catalyst for self-discovery and living more fully and authentically.
After many years of dedicated practice, they decided that it was important to share the timeless, universal benefits of yoga with others. With the vision to make yoga more accessible and improve lives, both completed Yoga Alliance Approved teacher training programs. Scott studied under Tunde Borrego and Emily studied under Shannon Paige Schneider and Chris Muchow. Though their teaching styles are different, both focus on inspiring their students to nurture that which speaks to their hearts.
The idea to start LuvMat came to them over pillow talk one night. They asked themselves the question "What are our natural gifts and how can we use them to create positive change in the world?" The answer was love. Being natural nurturers, they wanted to remind others of their value, lift them up and make them feel loved and supported. Ultimately, they wanted to inspire others to love and take care of themselves, so they could extend that love to their families, friends, co-workers and beyond.
Scott and Emily felt like, in order to remember to love, there needed to be a physical reminder and the LuvMat yoga mat was born. They made the
decision that they didn't want to be simply a yoga mat company, but rather a
company that uses their product as a platform to spread their mission of love and
support organizations that value human empowerment. It was with that intention that they made the commitment to bring LuvMat to fruition.
